This semester the Hillel Program Board has started a fun and innovative initiative to increase Hillel’s visibility on our campus. A running event throughout the year, we use a branded golf cart as the “Hillel Food Truck.” Our student leaders set up the truck at strategic locations on campus, using music and a fun atmosphere to create buzz about upcoming Hillel events.
Our first food truck day was a huge success! Using Shabbat food as a theme, we served kosher pulled brisket sandwiches on challah rolls to promote Shabbat at Hillel. We were able to serve 150 students at three different locations on campus: the Rand Dining Hall, Library Lawn and the Ingram Commons. For future food truck days, we are hoping to serve latkes and doughnuts for Hanukkah, as well as other holiday themed foods in the Spring. We will also implement a social media strategy, so follow the Hillel food truck on Twitter, and see where the food truck will be next!
